Both are used by the indigenous peoples as strong sedatives. Mulungu is said to calm the nervous system and induce a pleasant sleep. Research shows that Mulungu contains at least 20 isoquinoline alkaloids, purporting such qualities asanti-inflammatory, sedative, and analgesic.
